'Twas with a touch of sadness I awoke this morning feeling no pressing need to pack a bag and head off to Sydney for the 'Warmers', a precursor for a weekend of fun and frivolity that was our Annual RAN Skilled Hands Sydney Rocks Xmas Pub Crawl Smokey..! Post Script: Having just revisited my Special OFFICIAL Report on our FINAL Annual RAN Skilled Hands Sydney Rocks Xmas Pub Crawl Smokey nostalgia was tugging at my sleeve... I find myself looking back on the various Annual RAN Skilled Hands Sydney Rocks Xmas Pub Crawl Smokeys over the past 20 years, (plus those NOT held in The Rocks,) recalling those regulars who made them all possible, Col Kelson, Dave Warren, Charlie Staples, Mark Mobley, Brian McKenzie, et al... those dedicated participants who could afford the expense and who made the effort to fly in from interstate, like Tafmo and Rhonda King, Steve Johns, Smiley Rhodes, Pony Moore, and in two cases, even flying in from overseas, like Fred and Anne Russell and Steve Wilson, just to experience our unique 'cultural' event. I fondly remember those who only experienced one, like Roger Fidler, Ron Preddy, Gary Kitt, Simone Morris, Viv McLeod, Pete Cottam, Fritz Hansen, Buck Rogers, Doug Green, Watson and Bill Ohl or perhaps two or more, like Rob Hall, Gordon and Sandy Robertson, Henry Schubert, and those no longer with us, like Dino Gedling and Dave Maxwell, and finally acknowledging those who always 'promised' to make it, but left their run too late, sorry Charlie Britt... sadly, one eventually shuffling off this mortal coil, Bruce Sloper... Now I know there'll be someone diligently scanning the preceding list of names, who'll complain I've missed them... If you're that person, I humbly apologise, but 20 years is a long time...! I thank you all for making all our past events a success... In closing, I'd like to again raise a glass to 3 MOBI regulars no longer with us, leaving us with only fond memories, VALE Dave Maxwell, Col Kelson and most recently, our buddy, Dave Warren...

Are we to complacent with the state of the world at present . Notwithstanding the US elections and our strange obsession with the various sexual permutations about half of the world is preparing for war. From the Ukraine to the middle east to China's continued sabre rattling we are a "mistake " away from WW111. I am sure the opponents of the free world are contemplating some major moves with the vacuum caused by the US elections. When this occurs Aboriginal land rights , reparations and gender diversity will fall by the wayside. We have had life to easy and are not awake to the impending disaster. Anyway enough of the navel gazing and I hope I am wrong. I think it was Teddy Roosevelt who said " walk softly but carry a big sick" but at present we are walking softly and carrying nothing.

Couldn't agree more but an awful lot of people still have their heads stuck in the sand methinks.

Never a truer word, Sully! The men's group I consort with twice a week discusses this quite regularly. Being the only military bloke there my opinion gets asked often, but my honest answers usually leave them speechless, namely: If the shit hits the fan it will be the chinese, and the first thing to go will be communications. Take down the mobile networks and the mass panic will defeat us straight off the top. No money transfer available, can't buy anything, can't fill up cars and contact with everyone is gone - huge panic. Major attacks via the internet will reduce that facility to a locked out population. Don't need missile strikes initially as plenty of agents are already here. Missile strikes will come next to take out power transmission, and that's easy to do as the power stations have been reduced and 'renewables' will just complicate things even more, but will cause fires, etc. Further strikes will come on military installations almost simultaneously, easily done with the chinese having over 90 submarines available. They don't need to invade at all....

I find a similar response to when I say what we could find ourselves in, if the shit hits the fan. Civvie responses are generally, "they wouldn't do that, that would be terrible"!
Some seem to think that if we are nice to everyone, they will be nice to us also. My response is that there are lots of tyrants out there, and they couldn't have a rats about us. If an opportunity arises, they'll take it.

I get similar responses and looks of disbelief when I reply to similar queries! They just don't understand how vulnerable we are how underprepared and under resourced we are. Vulnerable power, communication, water, oil refineries (with low fuel reserves), transport, shipping and little manufacturing of consequence and defence. It will unfortunately be a disaster and Mr and Mrs general public and the rifraff have absolutely no idea of what to expect and what will be required of them. One can only hope that it will not eventuate and unfortunately I feel the "eager" volunteers to fight will not be as forthcoming as they were in the past.

The problem starts "from the enemy within" (misguided protests, unreal expectations in life, politicians, lobbyists and public servants without a grasp of the broader issues or acting against the broader population). The last world war did not see the level of immediate global information that is available now. There continues to be too many simple mistakes against ensuring that the country is purposefully structured to withstand any threat.

Hey, you blokes should be running the country, but on second thoughts, common sense is not considered relevant is it?
