I received the following email from John Quick a few days ago. Today, I discovered a notice Harry Wyver's passing. Unfortunately, the notice is twelve months old. I have attempted to contact Harry off and on for a few years to no avail. It saddens me to learn of the news so late following his death, and to think I was in the UK at the time. Death Notice Harry Wyver Passed away peacefully on Friday 10th October aged 77. Dearly loved husband of the late Maureen. Treasured stepdad of Maria, Sarah and Claire along with their partners and children and a respected brother of Marian, Brian, Barbara and Shirley along with their partners, nephews and nieces.
A service will be held on Wednesday 5th November at 11.30am at the Ellers Chapel, Ulverston. Dress for comfort, anyone wishing to donate in Harry’s memory may do so for Guide Dogs For The Blind, donations can be left after the service. All enquiries to Little and Caine, 20 the Ellers Ulverston 01229 586970
Published 20th October 2025 The Mail https://www.nwemail.co.uk/notice/30694034.harry-wyver/Harry, along with me, was one of 84 who joined Nirimba in January 64 and trained as a naval shipwright before entering the fleet. Never served with Harry after that and lost track of hin until January '81 when we both joined Creswell to start our SD training, along with 9 others (6 ME and 5 NS). Harry was pretty quiet but good company with plenty of laughs at Nirimba and enjoyed a beer. He surprised me early in 1st term when we first got leave by wanting to join me in attending one of the first live Rolling Stones performances in Sydney when he found out I was getting tickets. We had a good night. We also enjoyed many ales, (as I think most did) in the bar and the salon bar of the Town Hall pub on many Saturday mornings. Sadly we both went our seperate ways after Creswell. Harry didn't attend our last few reunions as he was in the UK, and we lost contact with him until John Quick came across the notice above. Harry is not the first of the Jan '64 group to cross the bar but he is the second of our SD group commissioned in January '81 to do so, the first being chippy Ken Stone. Vale Harry RIP, may you have fair winds and following seas. Another brother gone, leaving onlu many fond menories of bygone years. Condolences to his family

I can't recall ever serving with Harry whilst in the fleet. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Harry, your watch is done.

Very sad reading this, Harry was a decent bloke. Vale Harry, may you have gentle breezes and the warm sun on your face on your journey.

Whilst I wasn't closely associated with Harry, I can still vaguely put a face to the name from Nirimba days... Always sad to lose another MOBI, particularly one younger than me..! VALE Harry, Rest in Peace...
