Have you considered that it may have something to do with the fact that

I have received correspondence WRT the Nirimba 50th Reunion from Rosemary Meiklejohn advising of Paul's passing. Quote: "... my dear husband, Paul passed away on 30th April this year, the result of heart disease and at the age of 57 with still so much more living to do ... he always spoke with fond memories of his time at Nirimba and the years that followed at sea ... as his widow, I wish the committee great success as you move forward with your plans and hope that the reunion revives many friendships and past memories of times spent together whilst in the service of our wonderful country." Unquote.

Also received correspondence from Elizabeth Bruce, daughter of CAPT Joe Stead, RAN to advise of his passing on 5 July 2005 in Sydney.

Rest your oars gentlemen ...

If I am not mistaken Capt JW Stead was the CO of Nirimba when we passed out in July 74.

Quite correct. I was just thinking about where he would be now. This needs posting on the FISGARD site.

Andy,

I would have thought you would have passed out of Nirimba long before 1974? :-k

Your younger brother Duncan was in my term and we passed out in June 70!! :supz:

Brian, I was attempting to use the `quote` function to copy the previous entry. If you care to look, you will find there is a [quote] after the first line and yes, I did pass out at the end of 1967.

Duncan is now teaching English to the Chinese military somewhere near Shanghai, has fallen in love with a Chinese woman and is going to get married again. Email me if you want his email address.

Bill Kane CC'd me into this e-mail regarding the passing of a guy that a lot of you may recall.

Hi Darrell,
I have received sad advice that Robin J.R. Pennock Commander RAN Retired passed away suddenly on 22/12/05 here in Adelaide. His funeral will be held on 29/12/05 @ 1400 at the Church of Holy Innocents, Sheoak Rd Belair SA. Contact Phone No 08 82728555.
Robin is well known to most Techinical saiolors who served on HMAS Stalwart.
Should the HMAS Perth Association wish to express their sympathy to Mrs Pennock and his Family, I will be attending the funeral as a representative of the TPI Federation, and would be happy and prepared to do so.
In his most recent years Robin has coordinated TIP training for Welfare and Pension Officers from all ESO's in a very dedicated and friendly manner as most Sailors would know.
For Info.
Kind Regards
Bill Kane

Very sad to hear about Captain Stead. I remember him well from Nirimba. He almost stopped me from getting married the first time.

The guys in 7th term put the piss on for me in the Mess a few days before I was due to get married, and the party got a little out of hand. I was Vice Captain of 2nd term at the time, and the guys thoughtfully rolled all the guys in my term for me (and 1st term) after they'd thrown me into my cabin (plus put a handfull of peas, carrots etc on my pillow), and after they'd told the Duty grunter to f*%^ off when he told them the mess was late in closing.

Captain Stead was watching the carnage from his house, and ended up chasing a few of the culprits through 1st term after he arrived on the scene - didn't catch any. #-o #-o

Next morning all of 7th term were fronted and Joe gave us a real tongue-lashing. It was going reasonably well until he asked if we thought it was funny, him having to chase hooligans through 1st term - Brian Moseley, still pissed from the night before (like half the term), burst out laughing while Stead was standing in front of him. I thought Captain Stead was going to have a heart attack then; turned a dark shade of purple and had trouble screaming. Finally got to call Moseley a horrible little man, and gave us all stoppage of leave for a week. I was getting married during the week, so I had to get special leave for the day. Why couldn't he have knocked me back? #-o #-o :finga:

Rest in peace Joe.
