I received this sad news from Peter Maher late this afternoon... [-o<

It is with deep regret that The HMAS BRISBANE Association advises of the
passing of one of our esteemed members.

R43169 CPOET Philip John BARRY, aged 56 has passed away following a heart
attack and stroke on Wednesday 31st January, 2007, at Werribee, Victoria.

Phil was a member of BRISBANE's ships company during the 1971 deployment to
Vietnam.

May you always have blue skies and gentle breezes, wherever you may roam.

Rest in Peace. [-o<

Peter Maher,
National Secretary,
HMAS BRISBANE Association

Joining RANATE in the January '66 entry, by my calculations, Phil would have been in the
20th MOBI Intake with Smiley Rhodes, David Prest and 110 others... Far too young... [-(
Phil became Member 233 of RAN Skilled Hands on 1st Dec. 2003, just 4 weeks after we
launched, giving his location then as Barwon Heads (Victoria) but he had never posted...

Rest on your oars Matey... [-o<

Very sad to hear of Phil's passing.

We go back to the days of hut 267 (closest hut to the fence) at Nirimba, Stirling Division. I think Phil was a drummer in the volunteer band.

RIP mate!

Guys,
see below bad news regarding Phil. He is survived by wife Margaret,
Daughter Justine and son-in-law Darren.
After his 20 years in the RAN Phil went into the public service as a
codifier, he then joined me at SMA as a logistics engineer on the Anzac
Project for a number of years. He then went off to Transfield technical
services and was involved in support for the city link tunnels. After
that I lost touch with him until I heard a few years ago that he was
back in defence codification again. He moved from Werribee to Barwon
Heads (famous for the sea change program) and was commuting into the
city each day.

The funeral will be at 1.30 this Tuesday (6 Feb) at the Anglican Church,
Hitchcock St, Barwon Heads Victoria.

Ian Richardson has indicated that he will be coming down from Sydney on
the day for the funeral so anyone who is attending may want to
co-ordinate through Ian - 0406 222676

Unfortunately I will be back in Adelaide and can't attend.

I've attached an update of the Nominal List - changes since the last
issue are in yellow - we have a lot of people still to contact!!

Regards

Barry

Very, very sad to hear of Phils passing.

I remember Phil as laid back sort of bloke wuth a somewhat dry sense of humour who didn't mind a cool drink on a hot day.

Although he was a 'Greenie' (we all have our crosses to bear) he was a good guy and will no doubt be missed. Sympathies to his family on behalf of the 20th Mobi intake.

Fair winds and smooth seas Phil :salute:

Sad news of Phil's sudden death. Another member of the JAN 66 MOBI Intake gone, just as we are starting to contact mates / friends not seen since Passing Out back in JUN 69 in some cases.

RIP and Smooth Sailing

Another of our number lost too early. Sincerest condolences to Margie and family - a dear friend gone but never forgotten.
