Modern building techniques would make the build so much longer and way more expensive............

Would it be the techniques, Brian? Or would it be the people wielding the building techniques, the bureaucracy required to operate them, and the interference by the gold-ringed diots who want to change a contracted successful design, and changed again by their replacement gold-ringed idiots.

I guess there would need to be all those "design changes" that were done to improve operation and maintenance (though never quite making it to the "formal" point ). ..................................................... sorry, just had moment thinking about "Pentagon Wars" and the change from a lightly armoured, tracked fast infantry vehicle (for 11 members) to the Bradley Fighting Vehicle that came off the production line (outstanding)..............see your point Seejay

The excellent photo below was posted on the HMAS Brisbane FB Page by Bradley James Martin, a very skilled (ex-Nirimba trained?) MTP, who built both the magnificent 1.85m model of 'The Steel Cat' and the display cabinet. Bradley had already mentioned on the HMAS Brisbane FB Page that he was a former Stoker, which prompted me to post: 'For Stoker, you make a bloody good Chippy...!' Bradley came back with: 'They didn't give me a chance at 'H'! Went in with weld cert etc., too.' I don't know if that meant Bradley was trained at Nirimba, or not, but it says a lot about the selection process in place at the time that he wasn't able to pursue his choice of vocations, despite his prior qualifications...

Rick,
I've had a search of the SH Nominal Roll between 1970 and 1984. No listing of a B J Martin.
Therefore, I would assume he entered via Cerberus.

Don't know if any of you Guys ordered one of the long awaited resin kits of DDG41 'The Steel Cat' HMAS Brisbane, but Bryson Ryan, the person who organised them, has advised that the kits have all now arrived in Australia (from France) and are now being re-shipped by Bryson to each of us individuals who bought them.... Lookin' good...!
