It is my sad duty to inform fellow MOBI's of the passing of Peter Julian RAY - R42872.

Peter was an SAP of the Jan 64 intake (16th Intake). After Nirimba, he served in Stuart and toured Vietnam in 1968.

He then went to the UK to undertake submarine training. Peter has been an active member of both the RAN & RN Submariners Associations.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday 13th April.

Bowra & O'Dea Funeral Home
131 Great Eastern H'way
Midlands WA

My condolences to his family & friends, and in particular John Ray, a brother and fellow member of the 22nd Intake.

RIP Peter :salute1:

Sadly, I had just received that news my self BC. Peter was one of the members of my intake (16th) and during firs at term we shared the pleasures and discomforts of Hut 72. I recall Peter having a really happy outgoing nature and being well liked by all his term mates.
I never served with him outside of Nirimba and unfortunately he didn't attend our last reunion.

Rest your oars Peter and may you have fair winds and following seas. Another brother taken far to early. My condolences to his family and friends.

Vale Peter Ray

Peter passed away 31 March 2017. He joined the RAN in January 1964 at HMAS Nirimba and was an SAP. After Nirimba Peter served on HMAS Stuart before heading to the UK for submarine training. Unfortunately while he was there he was hit by a car resulting in the loss of an arm and discharge from the RAN. During his life he was a prolific blood donor and active member of both the Australian and RN Submarine Associations in WA .

Thanks Rick, but I can't really take any credit as it has come from Bob Mummery's network, I think. :-k

Very nice piece BC, well found! :ok: Describes Peter as I remember him but also found out some things I was unaware of (880 blood nonations :omg1: ).

In reading the article these words struck me as describing most if not all Mobis ie good indepth knowledge of many things combined with many varied interests. :book:

"He loved the arts in all their forms and had an extraordinary knowledge and un-derstanding of them including history, geol-ogy, medicine, etymol-ogy, botany, PhYsics, math and quantum theory."

Vale Peter!
