CJ,

I was always of the opinion that the Kiwi Governments were a bit more progressive that ours. :-k

NZ Veterans

Unfortunately the Government of NZ, has been a little lax in the welfare of their Veterans. I've a close friend who is getting a pittance compared with ours and his father who is in his 80's and a WW2 veteran has just been made equalevent TPI. It is a lot harder for the KIWI's to get claims up and running, especially if they are now living o/s. Or have taken up that countries citizenship.

I hope that the NZ Vietnam Veterans get all their benefits before to long.

Rock On Baby !!!

Phew,.

lot of memories flooding back from the postings in this forum.!

Been watching "Walk On By" on ABC TV last few Thurs nights. Funny how most every song brings back a particular set of memories, with complete clarity - where, when, how etc, and, even more amazing, feelings of warmth, cold, aloness, camraderie, love, hatred, compassion, revulsion, you name it?

Just the opening bars of a tune first heard 30-40 years ago can evoke almost "total recall" like where we were, what we were doing and with whom, and how we felt, even the weather ????

Like when Armstrong walked on the moon, r JFK was assasinated, Cyclone Tracey, Sep 11, Boxing Day 2004 etc etc. One can well understand these, but how an old song can do teh same - we are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Guess it's all in there somewhere, on the bio-hard drive, just waiting to be brought into bio-RAM by punching in the right set of inputs, eh?

I liked the early Beatles, moreso most the Mersey Beat people - lusty, busty, Dusty Springfield, Manfred Mann, Dave Clark 5, Cilla Black, Herman's Hermits, Freddy & Dreamers, Sandy Shaw, et al.

Loved US scene too; Righteous Bros, Beachboys, Statler Bros, Leroy van Dyke, Marty Robbins, Roy Orbison, Jim Reeves,, Conny Francis, the myria of small groups and ;large, also Byrds, Hollies, Eagles, could go on forever.

And the burgeoning Aussie scene - J O'K (loved the man and his music), Glen Shorrick, Normie Rowe, Bobby & Laurie, Litttle Pattie, Dinah Lee, you name some more????

I was more into Canned Heat, CCR, Beach Boys, and a small amount of Simon and Garfunkel.

But Aussie music was my real preference.

Little Patti, Col Joy, JO'K and Deletones.

Some where in my mothers shed is a Sanyo cassette recorder I brought back from HK, and knowing my mother there should be some "old" cassettes from 69-71. Some of those were 'pirate copies' that I thought were bargains but in fact a few were only recored on one side.

When our eldest boy was in the Gulf this year, the stokers mess had adopted the standard "We have got out of this place....". I had a little laugh to myself and surprised him when I said that was an anthem from the 60's.

"Riders of the Storm" always brings back memories of the The Chevron in the Cross. The dingey upstairs bar, above the Quarter Deck bar.

That song always seemed to be playing every time I walked into that bar.

Ah! Memories. I can still smell that odour of stale beer and cigarette smoke.

Dosn't anyone remember that useless video jutebox that stood in the Rockies showing music clips on a screen. The one song that was played over and over was LoLa by the Kinks or was it the Animals(?) (help me out here guys). Nowadays I cringe a little when I hear that song. Something about sleezy gentleman and strange deep voiced women, with adam apples.

Yep gotta admit I liked the old Johnny Horton and Marty Robbins.

I still can remember the stokers mess on PARRAMATTA (70) and everyone testing out their cassette players with those two tapes.

Yes there are many other songs and tunes that trigger the old grey matter cells. Lets hear some more from the troops.

:drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers: :drinkers:

How about the Rugby/sea shanties tapes?

A great night Harry,s band played some of the best Jazz I have heard for a long time Harry knocked them dead with a few of Franky's songs and a collection from his latest CD

I can see Nick Cage's CD coming out of the Landcruisers 6 stacker and Harrys going in .

Frankie J., Wilbur Wilde, and Ol' 55. Now there was some good music that was worthy of the Vietnam era.

On the prowl was one of their songs. What were the others?

Cheers

CJ

p.s. This isn't a quiz, I just plain can't remember........... #-o
