Received the following sad news from Bob Mummery this afternoon... :evil3:

From: Bob Mummery <bandi@iinet.net.au>

Subject: VALE - CHIEF MECH. KEVIN (TINY) JOHNSON

Dear All,

Tiny Johnson’s daughter, Taryn, rang a few moments ago to tell me that Tiny passed away last night. Tiny and I have been in regular contact since the early 1960s when he was a young Stoker and I an Apprentice. We served together in HMAS SUPPLY and HMAS MELBOURNE in the 1960s and early 1970s and have been friends ever since.

For those who may have thought that Taryn or Betty (Tiny’s wife) might have been able to send out an email, please be aware that Tiny had locked everyone out of his computer – Taryn is doing her best to get back into it. In the meantime she will telephone those for whom Tiny has listed telephone numbers elsewhere.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. Taryn will advise me of such when finalised. Funeral attendance is restricted owing to COVID-19 however a streaming of the funeral will be available and a link to it will be advised.

RIP Tiny, Liquid Oxygen Plants will never be the same again!!!

Yours aye

Bob Mummery

:-k Whilst I never met Kevin, or 'Tiny' in person, he was a fairly avid reader of RAN Skilled Hands and I'd corresponded with him on more that one occasion...

=; Rest on your oars, Tiny, your journey's done... R.I.P.

Tiny was definitely larger than life. You knew when he was around!

Always willing to help in any way. Another sad loss to the engineering fratertity.

Tiny did his Vietnam service in HMAS Vampire in 65 & 69.

Your watch is over.

RIP Kevin :salute1:

Rick, Tiny did the Mech's course whilst we were at "Nirimba", I remember him getting stuck in the boiler tube "thingy", in front of the Boilermakers Shop. ( AND WE LAUGHED AND WE LAUGHED). :oopssign:

Another sad loss! Served with Tiny in a few places but remember him at Nirimba. As, well as the Mech's course he also did a stint as the "Factory Chief" on one occasion later in life.
Condolences to his family.
RIP! Tiny you have served your time well, fail winds and following seas.

I have just dug out a photo of the Petty Officer's Training Course at Cerberus and there isTiny at the rear row far left, making a lot of us looking like midgets.

He always had a smile on his face.

RIP Tiny.

Dear All,

Karen Giacomini, Tiny Johnson’s daughter (not Taryn as I had previously advised – hearing problem) has provided the link for those who wish either attend or to view, via the internet, Tiny’s funeral.

And for all those who knew the big man, we will remember him.

Bob Mummery
