Received the following e-mail from Bruce 'Connie' Francis... Hi
Rick,
Seen this on the
HMAS Vampire FB page, not sure if you or any of the other on
Skilled Hands have seen it. It was posted by
Ian Crowe."It is with sadness that I advise that old
MOBI mate
Richard (Dick) Galloway crossed the bar on Tuesday morning at 3:03am.
Dick has had a long 20 year battle with
Parkinson’s Disease and lost his brave fight with family beside him.
Dick spent a few years on the
Bat in the early 70’s before moving over to the
submarine life. RIP old buddy.
A service for
Dick will be in
Lithgow at the end of next week and friends are all invited.
Ian Crowe"
Cheers
Connie Thanks for the
'heads-up' Connie... My initial checking in
Chapter 31 (Intake Lists) of
'Skilled Hands At Sea' in our
RAN SH Library produced a listing for
AA Galloway as a Member of the
4th MOBI Intake of
January '58, which I presumed was
Richard, albeit the initials
of
AA didn't correspond, something not all that uncommon with earlier print runs of the book...
But then to add to my confusion, I found an
RR Galloway as a Member of the
25th MOBI Intake of
July, '68, whose initials did match, so I
must assume that this is the
Richard 'Dick' Galloway referred to by
Ian Crowe (in the same Intake,) in the
HMAS Vampire FB page, which
puts him in his mid-to-late 60's,
another MOBI taken too young... Hopefully some of our Members can shed more light on the life of
Richard 'Dick' Galloway..?
