23rd MOBI Intake Tiffy, RAN SH Member, MYN Key Crew and good mate, Brian 'Charlie' Staples sent this familiar movie to me via Facebook, "Skilled Hands at Sea" which I thought most of us wouldn't have seen in ages...
In the comments under the clip on YouTube there was quite a discrepancy in the various wild 'guesses' as to when it was filmed, so to clarify it once and for all, I posted the following reply to 'Amanda', who posted the movie...
"I can narrow the time-frame down for you quite easily and more accurately, Amanda. The white webbing belts worn by a number of the Naval Artificer Apprentices shown in the movie were only worn by first term (sprog) Apprentices in their first six months at RANATE, HMAS Nirimba. Those wearing white webbing were in the term above mine, (I was in the 13th MOBI Intake of July '62, so they were from the 12th MOBI Intake, joining in January '62,) and as they were in 'winter rig' long sleeved shirts, long work trousers, the time-frame of the movie could therefore only be between April '62 and July '62, otherwise it would have been me in the white webbing..!!!"
