TAFE were relocating some of their training to its facility at Kingswood. Part of the crunch was not realising the size of the facilities in use at Nirimba. The "university" on site has been downsized over some time (to "college" status) and the two senior high schools on site that catered exclusively for Years 11 and 12 (supporting surrounding high schools that dropped Years 11 and 12) are now having to market themselves (surrounding high schools now taking back Years 11 and 12). The base is now in the suburb of Nirimba Fields yet the new Nirimba Fields Public School is being built 400 metres north (rather than on the educational precinct).
I have a sneaking suspicion that the land is still "owned" by the Commonwealth, meaning that the Defence Housing Authority will have the ability to do what they have done to the airfield....
