Here's the article SeeJay referred to... 'Wreck's new lease of life...'
Wreck's new lease of life
Lou Robson From: The Sunday Mail (Qld)
June 24, 2007
ONE of Queensland's booming tourist attractions has been labelled an incredible wreck - and that's just the way visitors like it.
More than 16,000 dive enthusiasts have plunged into the waters off Mooloolaba to explore the sunken metal carcass of the former guided missile destroyer HMAS Brisbane.
'Wreck'..? She was never a 'wreck'... She was scuttled...!
Here's eight more pictures of the 'wreck'...!

It's good to see these old girls put to good use... a whole heap better than the scrap yard, if you ask me...
I know the SWAN attracts plenty of divers also... she now rests on the bottom in Geographe Bay, just off Dunsborough, W.A.

I wonder who vetted the pics before they went to the Courier Mail as the gunmount in pic 3 was never on HMAS Brisbane and is pictured on a different class of ship altogether.
The gunmounts on Brisbane at the time of her sinking were the 5" Mk 54 and the gunmount in pic 3 are either of the newer 5" Mk 45 which I understand we now have on the Anzac class or the popgun fitted amidships on the FFGs. I also don't recall the Brisbane gunmounts having a devil emblem on their barrel tompions. Maybe that is another RAN or RN ship that the reporter has added into the story.

Norm,
You should know by now, the media never let the facts get in the way of a good story!

I was fading fast when I made the post... Ctrl-V either didn't take, or wasn't hit...
It's fixed now.

I paid off from HMAS Brisbane, and the Chippy's Workshop was just fwd of 'Mount 52'... I too pondered that picture for some time, (the turret seems altogether too small and too rounded,) finally putting it down to a combination of the wide angle of the photo and perhaps a touch of 'old-timers-disease' but I couldn't for the life of me figure out where the photo was taken from... And the mast, very distinctive on the DDG's, seemed to be missing something too... Then I thought, 'Didn't they do away with one of the after mountings to fit the Tartar Missile System...???' What do I know, I'm just a Chippy, and as long as there was room alongside the gun mount for my 'click-click' bed, I was happy...!!! Perhaps one of our more astute 'Weapons' types can pick it... The logo on the 'plug' on the end of the gun barrel looks familiar, and the uniforms on the NCO's are definitely look like RAN, RN or RNZN, but the photo's too small to pick up shoulder flashes, but the ship...? Ya got me... Would be nice to put the Courier Mail on the straight and narrow... And working well Bryan... Perhaps someone will eventually add a movie to the HMAS Brisbane Dive Site as well, hell, there were enough taken at the time of her sinking, and since...!

FFG - the photo is taken between the 76mm Oto-Melara gun and the exhaust uptakes and the mast is definitely FFG.

Its a FFG, the location I believe is Brisbane River, just after the Gateway Bridge, with Hamilton wharves to the right and the old shipyard to the left.
The FFG is proberly HMAS Melbourne, as they have also used the devil on their logo's.
